About

AMERICAN AUSTRALIAN ASSOCIATION EDUCATION FUND

The American Australian Association launched its Education Fund in 2002 to support post-graduate research between Australia and the United States.  It is now the largest source of privately funded educational Fellowships between the two countries.

To date, close to 300 graduate scholarships totaling over $7 million have been awarded to students in both directions for advanced research and study in the United States and Australia.

AMERICAN – AUSTRALIAN VETERAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Australia is the only country to have fought side by side with the United States in every major military engagement since WW1, the only ally whose generals command US forces in the field, and which is fully integrated with U.S. military and intelligence operations.

In recognition of the depth and strength of this 100-year alliance, the Association is launching a new American – Australian Veterans’ Scholarship Fund (VSF).  The VSF will further develop and cement the close and cooperative relationship that exists between our troops and military organizations.  Honorably discharged Australian and American veterans preparing to enter the next phase of their careers will have the opportunity to study abroad and experience firsthand the culture and society of the others’ country.

The VFF program will enable eligible veterans to enroll in an accredited course of 1 year’s duration or longer that leads to the award of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program at a tertiary institution.  The Association will partner with veterans’ support organizations in Australia (e.g. Soldier On and RSL) and the United States (e.g. American Legion, Sentinels of Freedom and VFW) to assist with outreach, review and selection of award recipients, as well as to provide mentorship to awarded veterans.

Two of the annual VSF awards will be co-branded and offered as graduate level scholarships in partnership with the U.S. nonprofit organization Sentinels of Freedom.  The Association will fund one AAA – SoF scholarship from Australia to the United States; and Sentinels of Freedom will fund one SoF – AAA scholarship from the United States to Australia to veterans who have been wounded or injured in a post 9/11 service related event.

The new VSF was launched from proceeds raised from the 75th Anniversary Battle of the Coral Sea Commemorative Dinner on May 4th and forms a new pillar in the Association’s Education Fund.
