2019 Benefit Dinner

The evening will highlight the depth and strength of the US-Australia business relationship as well as our Education scholars and alumni.  Since 2002, the Association has invested over US$8.5 million to support more than 300 American and Australian scholars undertake graduate study and research in a wide range of fields, including medicine, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, journalism and sustainability at prestigious institutions in Australia and the United States.

Reception for the Australian Prime Minister

On Monday, September 23rd, Australian Prime Minister, The Hon. Scott Morrison MP addressed senior business leaders and guests of Government at a Reception hosted by the American Australian Association at Sidley Austin LLP in New York.  

Guests included Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon. Marise Payne, Kathy Warden, Anthony Prattand a broad cross-section of American and Australian business leaders.

Continuing on theme from the State Visit in DC, Prime Minister Morrison reiterated the importance of the deep friendship that is shared between our countries and the democratic values and commonality of beliefs that underpin and bind our countries together.  The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of the role that the American Australian Association and the people who come and be a part of the relationship play in stimulating the depth of the engagement – not only in the $1.7 trillion in investment between both countries - but in commerce, education, science, research and defence.  



3rd Annual Mateship Golf Tournament

On Monday, September 16, the American Australian Association in partnership with the Australian Embassy hosted its 3rd Annual Mateship Golf Tournament at Whiskey Creek Golf Course in Maryland.  The day featured sporting legends Greg Norman AO and Jan Stephenson, Association scholars and several American veterans of The Great Generation.

The tournament supports the Association and our Veterans' Fund.  The fund provides scholarships that deliver vital opportunities for honorably discharged American and Australian veterans to study abroad in each other’s country, learn new skills and build prosperous post-military careers.

  AAA Business Council Economic Forum

On Tuesday, September 24, the American Australian Association Business Council co-hosted an Economic Forum in Sydney for the visiting delegation from the National Governor’s Association (NGA).  Led by Governor Hogan of Maryland, the delegation is currently visiting Australia to explore government and commercial partnerships, particularly in infrastructure. 

At the Forum, Business Council members and guests had the opportunity to hear directly from leadership in Maryland, Colorado, Louisiana and Washington about investment-ready projects in their states.  The Forum was an opportunity for members to further integrate into the US$1.1 trillion Australia-US trade and investment relationship and capitalize on Australia’s infrastructure expertise.
AAA Scholarship Opportunities

Since 2002, American Australian Association scholarships and grants have provided support to the next generation of American, Native American, Australian and Indigenous Australian individuals to undertake transformational educational study, research and artistic development in each other’s country.

Applications are now open for the following: Graduate Education Scholarships (USA to AUS), Veteran Education Scholarships (USA to AUS) and Arts Scholarships and Grants (both directions).

  AAA Arts Fund Scholar Update
Chenoa Deemal

American Australian Association Arts Fund Scholar and actor, Chenoa Deemal, will star in the upcoming production of The 7 Stages of Grieving at Skylight Theatre in Los Angeles this November.

Chenoa is a First Nations Guugu Yimithirr woman of Hope Vale, Queensland.  Chenoa was supported by the Association to undertake artistic development in the US with United Stages. The 7 Stages of Grieving,
written by Wesley Enoch & Deborah Mailman, holds a mirror up to America by sharing Australia’s Aboriginal people’s fight for equality and recognition.  The play opens a dialogue about the issues which separate and unite Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

The play will run from November 1 - November 24, 2019.

Sandy Lockwood: Unearthed Elements
October 5 - 26

Lacoste Keane Gallery, 25 Main St., Concord, will host Australian artist Sandy Lockwood’s exhibition “Unearthed Elements” from October 5 to 26.

The opening reception with Lockwood will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. October 5, and the artist talk will be at 2 p.m. October 6.

Lockwood has more than 35 years as a ceramic artist and educator in her home country of Australia.  She has exhibited worldwide, and her works are in both private and public collections in Australia, the UK, U.S., Europe, Korea, China and Japan. The event is Lockwood’s first solo exhibition in the U.S.

Join AWNY for their inaugural wine tasting event this fall.  They'll be embarking on a day-long adventure into Long Island Wine Country, sampling wines and exploring the surrounds – set against the backdrop of stunning fall foliage – it doesn’t get much better than that!  Bring some friends, or come on your own and make some new ones, either way you won’t want to miss this opportunity for some Long Island libations before the weather turns for the winter!
