The American Australian Association thanks you for your generous support of the 2018 Australia Day Arts Awards

On Friday, January 26, the American Australian Association hosted the Australia Day Arts Awards, presented by National Australia Bank, and in partnership with G'DAY USA. A capacity crowd of over 350 guests gathered to honor some truly amazing Australian creative artists at Skylight Modern, New York. Two-time Academy Award Nominee, Naomi Watts and Laura Brown, Editor-in-Chief of InStyle, were each distinguished with the AAA Excellence in the Arts Award for their leadership and outstanding achievements in the creative arts. The AAA Rising Star Award was presented to Chase Atlantic, a trio of two brothers, Mitchel and Clinton Cave and longtime friend, Christian Anthony.

Special guests Consul General Alastair Walton, Ambassador Katrina Cooper, Former Prime Minister Hon. Kevin Rudd, Hugh Jackman & Deborra-lee Furness, Lisa Fox, Katie Couric, Julius Onah, Joel Madden, Dion Lee, Victoria Lee, performers Fatai Veamatahau, Cameron McCarthy, Grant Smillie and Master of Ceremonies Hugh Sheridan all contributed to celebrating the achievements of our honorees, underscoring the important role of the arts in our lives.

Thanks to the generosity and support of all our sponsors and donors, funds raised from the evening, will provide scholarships to Australian and American artists early in their career.  In recognizing the energizing effect of new environments, the AAA has granted more than 500 scholarships to promising artists since 1998.  Previous Dame Joan Sutherland Fund grant recipients, Lily Balatincz, who last year won the prestigious Helen Hayes Award in Washington DC and Michael Grebla, an Australian composer who is in his final year of a Masters of Music at the New England Conservatory, Boston, inspired guests with the stories of their successful studies and gratitude.

The Australia Day Arts Awards event was made possible by our presenting sponsor National Australia Bank along with sponsors Austrade, Chris Green & Rachel Simons, Commonwealth Bank, DOW, JAMAKEPE Foundation, James Douglas, Jennifer Nason, Lisa Fox, Manikay Partners, News Corp, Paul Compton, Peter & Tina Harf, Qantas, Rio Tinto, Servcorp, Sidley Austin and Stuart Grimshaw. Our sincere thanks to you all for your generosity and backing.

Thank you to all the guests and artists for supporting the Australia Day Arts Awards, enabling the AAA to double the amount we will award to artists through our Dame Joan Sutherland Fund this year!  And our goal is to double it again for each of the next two years!

Can’t wait to celebrate with you all again in 2019!
