Inaugural Dinner for the Rt. Hon. Dr. H.V. Evatt, New York, 1949

Established by Sir Keith Murdoch in New York City in 1948, the American Australian Association (AAA) is the leading privately funded nonprofit organization dedicated to deepening and strengthening cooperation and understanding between the institutions and people of the United States and Australia.  Our two nations work closely on many levels, through government and business cooperation and leadership, corporate investment, research and innovation and the movement of people in business, education, sports, culture and the arts.

The AAA has a long and impressive history of serving the relationship between the United States and Australia.
For over 70 years, the AAA has provided an important forum for collaboration and exchange between political and business leaders - the US President, Australian Prime Ministers, Federal and State Cabinet Ministers, and the chief executives of leading companies across the United States and Australia have been among the many individuals hosted.

Our corporate members include many of the most prominent commercial and financial institutions engaged in business between the United States and Australia, showcasing the depth of our countries' partnership - spanning defense, spacial exploration, arts, education, technology and innovation, energy, infrastructure, sport and many other areas of mutual endeavor.

Since 2002, the Association's philanthropic scholarship and grant programs have distributed over $10 million to over 800 graduates, veterans and artists - further advancing the careers of the next generation of leaders, developing international networks and generating solutions that address the global issues of our time.

Strategic Pillars

The AAA builds and promotes alliances across the Pacific through four established and strategic pillars: business and innovation, education, veterans and arts programs.

Pillar One: Business, Innovation and Policy

The AAA's American Australian Business Council (AABC) highlights the dynamic economic bond between Australia and the United States and serves as a resource for business on both sides of the Pacific, by highlighting the businesses and their leaders who are key to this relationship. The AABC is made up of
C-suite leaders who seek to foster active dialogue, encourage innovation, improve trade and support growth on both sides of the Pacific.

Pillar Two: Graduate Educational Scholarships

With over 300 Scholars and $8 million invested to date, we are committed to helping advance graduate education to advance our countries’ ability to unlock new solutions to challenges as well as improving the quality of life for our citizens.  We are focused on encouraging more STEM graduates, as well as the medical, journalism and biology and land management leaders of tomorrow and are seeking matching partners to double the impact of our work.

Pillar Three: Veterans' Scholarships

The AAA is committed to investing in the future of honorably discharged American and Australian veterans by supporting educational opportunities which build new skills and create prosperous post-military careers.

Launched in 2017, on the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea, our American-Australian Veterans' Fund provides graduate and undergraduate scholarships of $40,000 to American and Australian military veterans, to support one-year of full-time study in any disciplinary field, in the country of the other.

Pillar Four: Arts Grants

Established in the spirit of cross-cultural exchange, the American-Australian Arts Fund offers early career artists the opportunity to advance in the fields of theatre, film, television, dance, visual arts, design, music, literature, photography and fashion, to develop their talent with leading mentors and educators.
