David Charles Nason Journalism Scholarship

David Nason was an Australian news, print and TV journalist covering stories as varied as sports, politics and war time coverage. In his honor, the Nason family is creating the David Nason Journalism Scholarship. 

Field of Study Supported:

 The David Nason Journalism Scholarship will support either:

  • An Australian digital, print, broadcast or multimedia journalism student to undertake Graduate level study at an accredited US educational institution for a minimum of one-year. Or;
  • An Australian journalist with 3-5 years of work experience to undertake a Journalism Residence Program at an American Media Company.

Applicants must be accepted into an accredited US educational institution or have a formal letter of offer into the residence program to apply. Applicants may apply if they have already begun their studies or residence in the US.

The Scholarship will award one student up to $20,000 to support travel, living, tuition or other associated educational costs.

General Eligibility

 To be eligible for a David Nason Journalism Scholarship you must be:

  • An Australian citizen or permanent resident (dual US citizens/permanent residents are not eligible);
  • Accepted into full time study in a graduate level journalism course/program or Residency in the United States;
  • Interested in pursuing investigative, business, political, scientific or data journalism.

Required Application Documents

  • High-resolution headshot & in-action shot (min 1MB, 300 DPi)
  • Video presentation
  • Passport biographic page
  • Offer or acceptance letter from your host university
  • Academic transcripts for Graduate and/or Undergraduate study
  • Resume
  • Detailed budget for intended study/research program
